Piedra grazes above another pond in Spring Creek Basin that has been filled by the recent rains!
It rained nearly all of yesterday, and we are slogging (thankfully!) through mud again. Maybe next year, we’ll get this bounty throughout the year. š We can hope.
TJ, Iām still so overwhelmed by your series of storm photos! Mother nature sure put on a show and left some nice gifts of puddles and full ponds. Just back and rivers here are set to experience historic high levels. Oh how I wish it were later and this was snow! I love your enthusiasm and explanations. Be careful out there!
I’m still buzzing. š And now … more rain. “Historic high levels” – I can believe that. Dawson Creek is running high, and if that’s the case, Disappointment and Spring creeks, which I can’t get out to see yet (near constant rain), must be absolute rivers. The Spring Creek crossings in the basin weren’t at all bad Tuesday; methinks that’s gonna change when next I can get out there. š Hope you had an amazing time away … welcome home!
Piedra is beautiful…and so is that silver pond behind her! So glad for all the rain – there and here. We too are very, very, sloppy muddy. And I love it!
I love it, too. š Sure would like to see this kind of rain spread throughout the year, especially when we need it and it can grow things … but I’ll take it – any time, any amount. Beautiful Piedra and beautiful pond – two of my favorites.
Pretty gal! So glad for the rain!
She’s about 20 now, if you can believe it. š We are SOOOOOO glad for the rain!!
Here too but I have to admit four days of dark and steady rain is a little harsh. It feels like “You complained? I’ll show you!” BUT it’s OK. Bear and I got out during the absolutely beautiful 30 minute break between storms. Couldn’t have been more lovely — for us and for the water birds.
Cabin fever; I’m feeling it, too! Excellent that you and Bear were able to get out and enjoy a brief break. š I managed to get out for a bit today … and had to completely rethink tomorrow’s blog post. Ha. As of about an hour ago (and it’s still raining), we were at 1.97 inches for THIS rain system. Unbelievably … awesome! š
Wonderful — I’m happy about it. I even bought rain pants. I’m not going to be stuck if I can help it.
That’s serious! I have two pairs of mud boots. They’re either a necessity … or growing cobwebs. š But I don’t have rain pants!
Well…Teddy and I got hit with horizontal rain in a sudden storm. That was bad. I was soaked. He was soaked and terrified. I opened the car door and it rained INTO the car. The next time, I wore the rain pants and they are AWESOME. $19 on Amazon. I can pull them over my waterproof Merrells and I’m good to go and go and I will go. Dammit! š¤£
Yikes! That’s at least the second time that’s happened to ya’ll?? Great about the pants! Keep on keepin’ on! š
To me mud boots are hard core!
I’ve been in running water (no, not in a creek!) above my mud-boot-clad ankles (mine are the tall kind that come up to about mid-calf) and mud adding pounds of weight – and that was just today. š I’m not sure I’ve seen rain like this in all my time in Disappointment Valley. … I’m sure I’ll be back to complaining about the drought again in no time, but for now, well, I’m just so relieved. š
Me too. The aquifer they draw from to irrigate just drops lower and lower. And seriously? Mud boots that go up to mid-calf? Seriously hard core.
Hopefully this kind of rain can do some soaking and not just off-running and help recharge the acquifer and ground water. Ha – hard-core boots for sometimes-hard-core rain! When you need ’em, you need ’em!
They’re preparing for floods in South Fork. It’s gone beyond boots up there.
Wow. They have a lot more verticality than we have here.
Yeah and two forks of the Rio Grande merge not far from there and a bridge failed. ā¹ļø
I was just reading this morning about all the flooding in Pagosa Springs, along with evacuations. Wow.
Rain, rain, rainš
And it did. š
Great pictures! The rainbow at the end is just beautiful! Glad for all the water!
I couldn’t believe it when that rainbow appeared. I was running around, through the water, like the proverbial chicken, trying to get pix. It was glorious!
